How Long Should You Run Your Pool Pump?

There isn’t one correct number of hours to run every pool pump. The useful schedule is the one that supports sanitation, filtration, skimming, heating, and other installed equipment without unnecessary power use. Start with those requirements, then adjust using observations and water tests.

What does the pump cost?. Watts × hours ÷ 1,000 = kWh.

Pool Pump Electricity Cost Calculator

To calculate pool pump electricity cost, multiply its electrical input in kilowatts by operating hours and your electricity rate. Do that separately for each speed or tariff period, then add the results. Motor horsepower and the pump’s maximum wattage are poor substitutes for actual operating input.

What Size Pool Pump Do You Need?

To determine what size pool pump you need, find the required flow at the system’s total dynamic head. Then choose a pump that can meet those conditions without exceeding any equipment limit. Pool volume and horsepower alone cannot establish a safe match.
