Filters.

Where to drain pool backwash water depends on your local wastewater rules and what the water contains. An approved route might involve a sanitary sewer connection, controlled land disposal, or collection. A nearby street drain isn’t permission to discharge.

Low pool filter pressure matters most when it accompanies weaker circulation. First compare the reading at the same pump speed and valve mode as your normal baseline. A low speed program can produce a low reading without a new fault.

A pool filter leaking at the tank seam or clamp needs an immediate shutdown. Stay clear and stop the pump from a safe control location. Don’t tighten a clamp or open the tank while the system is pressurized.

A pool filter leaking from the backwash line during normal filtering usually points to the control valve or its position. First distinguish continuing discharge from water left inside the hose after backwashing. Don’t cap the waste outlet to hide the leak.

A pool filter pressure gauge not working correctly removes an important operating check. Suspect the gauge if it remains stuck, becomes unreadable, or fails to return to zero after proper pressure relief. Don’t assume a zero reading means the tank is safe to open.

DE powder coming back into a pool needs a timing check before you replace the grids. A brief puff during coating, continuing discharge from the returns, and old powder stirred off the floor are different observations. Record which one actually happens.

Type A or C pool filters are sometimes sold under a combined A/C label, but the letters aren’t a universal compatibility standard. Match the cartridge to the exact pump or filter model. Then confirm its dimensions and sealing ends.

Jandy CL replacement filter cartridges must match the CL model and the required element set. The tank’s area describes the total filtration area, not the size of one cartridge. CL340, CL460, and CL580 each use four elements in the cited manual.

To measure a pool filter cartridge, record its outside diameter, length, and both end configurations. Include the end caps in the length, but exclude handles and other extensions. Then cross check the measurements against the housing model and replacement catalog.

A pool multiport valve chooses where water travels through or around the filter. Its labels describe different flow paths, not different pump speeds. Stop the pump before changing positions and use the instructions for the exact valve.

The pool filter vs recirculate choice changes whether water passes through the filter media. Filter sends water through the media and back to the pool. Recirculate bypasses the filter and returns water without that filtration step.

Your pool filter should suit the water flow, the space around the equipment, and the maintenance you’re willing to do. Sand, cartridge, and DE systems can all work well. The useful choice is the one you can size, service, and operate properly.
